The Autobiography of a New Churchman: or Incidents and Observations connected with the Life of John A. Little.

Philadelphia: Lippincott, Grambo, and Co., 1852. First printing. Hardcover. 8vo, original dark brown cloth gilt, very good, light wear to spine ends, foxing to text, solid and well bound copy. 258 pp, 48 pp. publisher's catalog at rear. Uncommon. The author was born in Philadelphia in 1796 to poor and illiterate parents from Germany, and in adulthood became a Swedenborgian and a churchman in the New Church. He practiced and served in Columbia, South Carolina, and then in other parts of the South, including Stockbridge County, Georgia, before coming to Pittsburgh where he stayed through the 1840s, leaving for Thornburg (the small township near Crafton?) in 1848. He may have also practiced law. Interesting descriptions of life in Pittsburgh and in visiting Old Economy around 1845. Very Good. Item #H8074
