Measures 9.75 inches tall, cloth backed stiff wraps with string tie. Pages tanned, brittle, worn, coming loose; about 50 pp. with pasted on flyers and handbills, business cards, programs, ads and matchbooks, notes, a few letters, contracts, membership cards to various social clubs, etc. Walt Debald played in a number of bands and managed others, one was Hawaiian themed (Walt Debald and his Tropical Aces), then there were The Aristocrats, The Moonlight Ramblers, and others. They would play not only clubs, but Serbian and Polish events, benefits, picnics, etc. Debald lived on Pius Street on the South Side slopes, and seemed to do anything he could to make a buck at the kinds of things he liked to do - he gave lessons in Spanish guitar, steel guitar, ukitar and ukelele, at one point he styled himself a novelist (we couldn't find any examples in libraries), but he did contract with a NY agent to get royalties from a song he had written (contract pasted in here too). An intriguing look at dance hall and popular musical life in Pittsburgh in the 1930s. Item #H8447
