Both notes addressed to Col. John McElroy of Washington DC, the first a paragraph in which Harries declines an invitation to speak at a July 4th celebration and the second from MacVeagh (Secretary of the Treasury) declining an invitation to speak on Lincoln at the First Congregational Church on Feb. 12. Both addressed to McElroy, a novelist who also wrote on his imprisonment at Andersonville (a 4-volume history of Andersonville), plus the Civil War novels Red Acorn and Si Klegg. Item #H9635
