Item #0083727 By Bread Alone. Will Creed.

By Bread Alone

Pittsburgh: Nudi, 1940. First edition. Hardcover. Publisher’s blue cloth in dust jacket, book good with some offsetting and tape stains to endpapers, rear flyleaf slightly damaged, previous owner’s name on flyleaf, jacket good only with chipping, loss, edge-wear, tears along flap folds. From the blurbs, “… The story of a fascinating family stricken with a hidden hereditary taint. A rising storm which gathers on the farmlands of Pennsylvania's Lawrence County and sweeps to a thundering climax in the great house which the Reagann Family has arrested from the growth that was Pittsburgh in the 90s, the plot presents a shattering lance to the challenge of each character that lives in the book.” Apparently the author, who was 22 at the time, hailed from Lawrence County, too. In the later 1940s, a “Will Creed” published some paperback mysteries and also employed the pseudonym Peter Yates. Some mystery databases suggest that Creed’s real name was William Long and that he was an ad-man in New York. This book is rare in the trade and in institutions; Worldcat locates a single copy at NYPL. Very Good / Good. Item #0083727
