(Wisconsin): np, c. 1900. Paperback. Homemade typescript of research relating to the Iron Brigade, the 6th Wisconsin Regiment of volunteers who fought for the Union in the Civil War. Softcover, measures 14 x 8.5. Approximately 100 pages, printed on versos only, purple ink. Homemade title label on front wrap. 1/2-inch snag to the right margin of the first 15 pages; no other markings or signs of wear. A homemade compendium of information on the famous Iron Brigade and Sauk Co. Riflemen, from the initial recruiting efforts to the celebration of the returned heroes. The book ends as thus: Returned to private life -- became the 'man behind the hoe' instead of 'behind the gun.' RARE. No copies in OCLC. An excellent resource for Civil War historians and genealogists. While the handwritten title notes the source as only 'The Republic', it is possible that the articles contained here were pulled from the proceedings of The Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War veteran's organization founded in 1866, or one of its auxiliary publications.
