Inscribed by the author to his editor William Targ, in Italian, on the fly leaf. 1956, First Italian edition of Kantor's "Andersonville," a Civil War novel that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. Hardcover, red cloth. Very Good+ in a Very Good dust jacket; pages have age-toned, but are clean and unmarked; tight, fresh binding. The DJ with shallow chipping along the top edge and other mild shelfwear. DJ is now housed in a mylar wrap. William 'Bill' Targ was an editor at World, who published the American edition of this book in 1955, and then Putnam's, as well as a major bibliophile. According to the Pulitzer Prize's official website, "On May 25, 1955, when he received the final pages of the novel, [William] Targ wrote: 'I feel something historical about this day. . . .
