Valencia: Patrimonio Ediciones, 2004. Hardcover. Hardcover with gilt stamped brown cloth boards in dust jacket, 2004, quarto, 253pp., illustrated in color. Book fine, binding tight, text clean bright and unmarked. DJ near fine with mild rubbing and soil. Text in Spanish. From the personal collection of former University of Pittsburgh medieval art and architecture professor John Williams. Saint Beatus of Liébana (c. 730 – c. 800) was a monk, theologian and geographer from the former Duchy of Cantabria and Kingdom of Asturias, in modern Cantabria, northern Spain, who worked and lived in the Picos de Europa mountains of the region of Liébana. He is best remembered today as the author of the Commentary on the Apocalypse, which is often referred to simply as the Beatus. The historical significance of the Commentary is made even more pronounced since it included a world map, which offers a rare insight into the geographical understanding of the post-Roman world.
