The Selling Compass

Chicago, IL: Bruce Dodson & Co. / Compass Sales Corporation, 1931. Loose-leaf fascicles were issued weekly ("Point" sections), biweekly ("Mental spark" sections), monthly ("Position-finder" texts), and bimonthly ("Sextant" texts) for one year, then assembled in two binders and housed in a wooden box, decorated to resemble medieval book, or treasure chest. "My Pledge to Myself" certificate pasted on inside cover. Box stamped in gilt on cover. Light general wear to box, rubbing at spine-ends of binders. Near Fine. Only one copy (UCLA) listed in OCLC. Features the author's idiosyncratic, and by today's standards quite offensive, observations on the art of selling including such gems as "People with heavy features, wiry hair and coarse skin are seldom interested in what are commonly termed "the finer things in life."; "Stout persons with wide foreheads, round faces, bodies, and hands, are the Ease-Loving Value Buyers." "A good way to the hearts of these buyers is through their stomachs - for they like to eat. Remember - eating, taking things easy, avoiding exertion - and money making - are their dominant characteristics."; "People with noticeably receding chins are given to Acting and Speaking without reflective thought." Near Fine. Item #C000027094
