Good+ to very good, hinges and joints tight, some expert japanese paper strengthening to front inner hinge, sporadic foxing to text, heaviest to outermost pages, light wear to edges of first few pages, from flyleaf to title page, some old 19th century inscriptions and signatures to endpapers. The author, born in Dublin, Ireland in 1795, D. 1850 in Alabama was a Methodist clergyman and preacher who was famous for his firy orations that he conducted down the East Coast to as south as New Orleans. He was said to have "converted" William Henry Harrison in 1840-41 and served as chaplain to the House of Representatives in 1841. After this, his career was compromised by accusations of sexual impropriety, which also led to his divorce. His son was a famous Confederate. Very Good. Item #C00004247
