The author was the leading Russian historian of his time in the St. Petersburg School of Imperial History, his books so lucidly and fluidly written that the Tsar asked him to teach history to his children. He kept his position through the Revolution, but in 1930 he was arrested for treason, exiled to Samarra where he died within days. Good. Item #H10171
