Pittsburgh: Carnegie Institute, 1896-1912. Hardcover. 14 volumes, all in their original paper-backed boards, generally very good, light general finger-soil and smudges to bindings, light wear (the 1912 one is the worst condition with light wear and loss to spine paper). Lacking the 3rd and 7th annuals (there was no 1906 exhibition: there is a jump from 1905 to 1907); the Eleventh annual from 1907 in original orange-brown morocco, perhaps a deluxe copy for a board member. In all a fine and rare group including the rare first annual exhibition volume. Established in 1896, the Carnegie International is the oldest regular North American exhibition of world artists 2nd oldest in the world (honors to go the Venice Bieannale). It is still a major exhibition in the United States, no longer once every year, and has been a career-maker for both curators and exhibiting artists, rivaling events at the Whitney, Lacma, Miami and elsewhere. Groups of early catalogs are very hard to assemble, and the fragility of the bindings leads to conditional problems more often than not. Very Good. Item #H10727
