Folio (14 inches, 36 cm tall) vellum, with frontispiece plate, letterpress title, 3 engraved title pages for each of the three parts, 92 numbered portrait plates of philosophers, and one unnumbered portrait plate of Aesculapius facing colophon. Front board a bit bowed, light wear to binding, some foxing to contents, for the plates mainly restricted to margins, bit of darkening and tanning to top 1-2cm of most plates, some dampstaining to top margins of last three plates. Bellori was a well known painter in Italy and also known as the successor to Vasari in producing his own Lives of the Artists; he was also known as a theorist of aesthetics and critical analysis of art.
