RARE, only 3 copies located by OCLC. The novel is set in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War. The author (1832-ca.1901) was German-born, but emigrated at some point to Minnesota. Census reports show him in Western Pennsylvania from the 1860s-1880s. He was the author of several books that have historical content. Two of his novels had science-fiction or fantasy elements. Good.
