20 8x10 original photos of 1958-61 downtown Pittsburgh construction projects: Hilton Hotel, Civic Arena, etc.

Fine vintage prints. Mainly charting the development from various angles of the Hilton Hotel before its opening in 1959, including from perspectives in Point State Park. Also early stages of building the Civic Arena which opened in early 1961, and other downtown projects. These were taken by Al Hilger, a self-taught sign painter born in Beaver in 1902, who lived in the Pittsburgh area and who did sign painting for downtown theaters, Joseph Horne's, and other businesses. He was also an amateur painter and an avid photographer, who obviously had a good eye. Very Good. Item #H12663
