Couvent de L'Assomption Val Notre-Dame, Huy (Belgique)

Bruxelles: Ed. Nels, Ca. 1900s. Wraps, 7.5 x 5.5 inches, very good, shallow loss to top edge of both covers, with 14 stiff phototypes of the grounds of the abbey, some of its interiors, the garden, etc. RARE, with no copies currently in commerce or in institutions. Originally built in the early 13th century in the Antheit region of Belgium, 4 km from Huy, it was first home to a Cistercian nunnery, then became a leper colony for hundreds of years. In 1901, the France-based Sisters of the Assumption purchased the abbey and its grounds, and had it converted into a boarding school for girls by 1905. This brochure was probably issued by the Sisters prior to opening the school, to advertise the beauty of the abbey. Very Good. Item #H12722
