Handwritten transcription of Dubbs' Lectures on the Theory of Style, 1888

(Lancaster): 1888. Hardcover. Transcribed by Franklin & Marshall student Cecil E. Heller in 1888, 48 pp. neatly written in a cloth backed decorated paper boards notebook. Good or better, with some neat cloth restoration of spine. Dubbs was the leading historian of his time of the Reformed Church in America, and a longtime professor at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster PA. The college register for 1888 notes that there would be two hours of lectures on rhetoric and the theory of style given in the first term, as part of the English department curriculum. It would be hard to believe these were transcribed from merely hearing the lectures by Dubbs; one imagines the work was transcribed from Dubbs's own copy. There is no evidence that Dubbs himself ever published these lectures. Good. Item #H12912
