Illusions, a Psychological Study -- G. Stanley Hall's copy

New York: D. Appleton, 1881. First American edition. Hardcover. Red cloth 8vo, good copy, spine faded and discolorated, minor restoration to front inner hinge. With G. Stanley Hall's bookplate, signature on title page, and occasional pencil marks to margins, probably his. 372 pp. Treats perception, hallucinations, hypnotism, dreams, etc. A neat association copy, linking two contemporaries of roughly the same age and inclinations: both Hall in America and Sully in England became interested in psychological education and leaders in the Child Study movement. They even shared an unpaid intern in Max Friedrich Meyer, who first worked with Sully before coming to America to work with Hall. Sully cites Hall's 1881 paper on hypnotism in this book. In fact, it can be argued that Hall's main counterpart in England would be James Sully. Good. Item #H13580
