Ancestry and Descendants of Colonel Daniel Wells (1760-1815) of Greenfield, Massachusetts, plus related material dated 1877 from genealogist Albert Welles

(Philadelphia): Privately Printed, (1904). Hardcover. Large 8vo, green cloth gilt, very good, 65 pp. Laid in are several circulars (one sheet flyers), plus letter from Albert Welles, who had published a genealogy of the Wells/Welles family in 1848 and was proposing an expanded 300 pp. edition, dunning a J. J. Howard for a contribution to his effort, plus other advertisements for Welles's American College of Heraldry and Genealogical Registry, including a flyer for the notorious genealogy of George Washington, which was revealed to be almost entirely a fraudulent effort of Welles, and with a folded broadside poem by Welles, "The Children's Centennial Poem" (ca. 1876), 11 x 5.5 inches, gray paper bordered in red, bit of darkening to upper two inches. Welles fabricated degrees for a number of American families, bringing to the United States a centuries-old European tradition of patents of nobility. Very Good. Item #H13671
