Ca. 1954 typewritten talk to 15 year old boys in Greensboro, NC about how to become a success, plus filled-out genealogical sheet from the Society of Mayflower Descendants proving Porter's line of descent
5 pp. typewritten, given when Porter was roughly 40, thus 1954 (born in Greensboro in 1914, died in Pittsburgh 2003). Porter was a longtime employee of Alcoa, eventually becoming director of the Alcoa Upstream Corp. His talk to boys is anecdotal and filled with inspirational old saws about good character and reputation; that money can't buy happiness, etc. "In closing I want to say that somewhere in this group is a boy who one day will be one of the leading businessmen of Greensboro. I don't know who he is, but I do know that he is the boy who has already started or is going to start right now to live clean, think straight and in everything he undertakes, big or little, do the very best he can. Goodbye." Included is a photo of the young Waldo Porter, age about eight. Item #H14551
