12 x 7.5 inches, black stamped stiff covers, approximately 100 photos and snapshots. Frederick B. Leopold (1865 -- ?) was the General Manager of Pittsburgh Filter Mfg. Co. and also a formidable inventor who patented several water filtration and water softener methods. At some point he lived in Sewickley, and the firm had offices in Pittsburgh and Oil City, among other places. The homestead scenes that feature a residential oil derrick speak more of life in Venango County than in the Pittsburgh area, so perhaps the Leopold family was located up thataways. Several photos show a barren landscape reminiscent of the Salt Lake flats, but we have no idea what location is pictured. One photo is labeled Flint and dated 1917; in 1912 Flint, Michigan contracted with the Pittsburgh firm to install their water filtration system (probably too long ago to blame Flint's current water issues on Leopold and his company!); another photo is of Greenville NC, possibly another site that hired the firm. The Leopolds seemed to have a bit of a farm life, with chickens, barns, etc. Some lovely "vernacular" images, but no captions and few identifiable places, so it's all a matter of guesswork. Very Good. Item #H14610
