Dnevnik A. G. Dostoevskoi 1867 g / Diary of Anna Dostoevskaya, 1867

Moscow / Moskva: Novaya Moskva, 1923. First printing. Paperback. 8vo, wraps, good only with quite a bit of edge wear and rubbing to wraps, contents good to very good, clean and readable if a little tan. 390 (2) pp, frontispiece of the author, who was Doestoevsky's second wife, marrying him in 1867 when she was only 21; this is essentially a portrait of Dostoevsky from that year. Almost as soon as they were married, the two fled Russia in order to avoid Doestoevsky's creditors. Wiki: During a stop in Baden, Dostoevsky lost all of his money playing roulette, as well as his wife's clothes and belongings. Anna seems to have succeeded, like Dostoevsky himself, in divorcing his gambling mania from his moral personality, and in regarding it as something extraneous to his true character. She soon took over his finances and succeeded not only in freeing him from debt but also got him to give up gambling. She would live to 1918, and this was the first publication of it in 1923. In Russian. Good. Item #H15277
