A Circumstantial Narrative of the Campaign in Russia

Hartford: Silas Andrews, 1817. Hardcover. Early printing but not the first edition. 8vo, old calf, good solid copy with rather crude relining of the flyleaf, with the following old note by its first owner: "Daniel Marchand, his book Bought of Labaum in the year 1819, Westmoreland County, State of Pennsylvania, Adamsburgh Town..." with a few other names and a handsome flourished doodle on the pastedown, 352 pp, the two folding plans at the rear only half there and with a crude patch on the rear pastedown, rear flyleaf excised. A good better than reading copy, with neat provenance: Marchand (1773-1822) was a medical doctor who practiced in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties. Despite the implication of the message, we don't think he purchased it directly from the author, a French engineer. Good. Item #H15469
