The Nature of Explanation
Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1943. First printing. Hardcover. 12mo, very good, slightest mellowing to spine, ownership signature from a Harold Clipstone, 1944, Stafford (an active member of the Quaker Friends Meeting in Stafford, he was apparently manager of a shoe factor and was also seemingly a disciple of Meyer Baba). 123 pp. In this book he first laid the foundation for the concept of mental models, that the mind forms models of reality and uses them to predict similar future events. He was thus one of the earliest practitioners of cognitive science: one can draw a line straight from Craik to Lakoff. His first book and very rare indeed to find any early edition of this. Very Good. Item #H15504
