NP: Lux Toilet Soap, Ca. 1930s. 17 x 12.5 printed envelope (somewhat worn) containing 38 reproductions of paintings on stiff sheets, for Lux Toilet Soap salesmen and women to build their soap sales, with a number of duplicates. The reproductions are in very good to fine condition. The paintings were chosen to appeal to middle-brow taste. Whistler's mother, paintings by Otto Fischer, Franz Grebe, Edward M. Eggleston's "Peter Pan," Einar Kverne's "We" (celebrating Lindbergh's flight), Henry Mosler's "The Birth of the Flag," etc. -- not exactly the kind of work one would find in a museum, but designed to appeal to the idea of fine art held by the "great unwashed" -- or in this case, by the great washed. These kinds of production tend to bring out our inner Walter Benjamins. Very Good. Item #H15856
