Mrs. Caudle's Curtain Lectures -- with original ANS from Jerrold to fellow Punch contributor Tom Taylor

London: Bradbury, Evans, 1866. Hardcover. First illustrated edition with Keene illustrations and chromolithograph frontispiece. Large 8vo, finely bound in polished warm brown calf, very good, some darkening and dulling to spine, boards with some darkening and discoloration, contents very good and printed on an unusual pale green paper. With bookplates of Alfred C. Howell, a well known bibliophile, and another bibliophile and Grolier Club member, George Livingston Nichols. With tipped in ANS from Jerrold to friend Tom Taylor, a fellow humorist and contributor to Punch as well as Jerrold's own journal, the Illuminated Weekly. A typed transcript also tipped in: My dear Taylor -- My wife had previously disposed of Thursday. Therefore, let us now get well over the labors of Xmas, and then have with you, irrespective of work, the merest rasher and a drop o' the smallest ale. Truly yours, D. Jerrold." Unrelated inscription from 1866 on flyleaf. Very Good. Item #H16005
