International Situation: Statement by the Prime Minister in the House of Commons on the 8th of February 1940

London: H. M. Stationery Office, 1940. First printing. 9.75 x 6.5 inches, one sheet folded to make four pages, very good, light soil. A speech detailing the situation in France as well as recounting the German attack on the British lightship East Dudgeon. Chamberlain concludes by saying, "We cannot tell how long the fight may last, nor what stern trials may yet await us. But we have no reason to be dissatisfied with the opening phases of the war, and we face the future with calm determination and unshaken confidence." This rather exemplifies why Chamberlain chose to resign and be replaced by Churchill in May of 1940. OCLC locates nine copies in institutions. Very Good. Item #H16599
