Autograph Letter Signed, 1853, commenting on a review, to Lord Holland

Albany, UK: 1853. Dated May 9, 1853, the letter reads: "Dear Holland, I return the Review. I have read it with the greatest interest, often agreeing, often doubting, sometimes dissenting. I should like to have a day; talk with you about the numerous questions which you have handled so well. I wonder that you have not, in speaking of Caesar's oratory, said more about that noble speech which Sallust has preserved. That the substance is corrrectly given is clear from Cicero's fourth Catilinarian, and I cannot help thinking that much of the language has also been faithfully reported. Ever yours truly, T. B. Macaulay." 7.25 x 4.5 inches, one sheet folded and filled out on three sides; mounted on a backing sheet the same size as the paper; we don't know how easily it can be removed. Good. Item #H16640
