Group of 25 offprints and reviews on philosophy, logic, analysis, language and logic from the collection of Wilfrid Sellars

Paperback. All very good in wraps, some bearing Sellars' pencil notation on covers as to authorship. Sellars was a major American philosopher who was the first to synthesize American pragmatism with Continental analytical philosophy and Vienna Circle logical positivism. He ranks with Carnap, Hempel, Salmon and Grunbaum as among the 20th century's most influential philosophers. Chisholm worked in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and other areas. His work constitutes a grand philosophical system somewhat in the manner of Leibniz or Descartes. Chisholm continually refined — and sometimes utterly revised — his views. He was a prolific writer. The bibliography of his written work in [LLP] contains citations of 320 items, including journal articles, reviews, and books. His work in epistemology alone would probably guarantee his position as an outstanding figure in American philosophy (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). Includes: Inference by Complementary Elimination (1957; with Bernard K. Symonds), Notes on the Awareness of Self (1965), Sellars' Critical Realism (1954), On the Uses of Intentional Words (1954), Professor Chisholm on Perceiving (1959), Review of Meinong-Gedenkschrift (1952), Jenseits von Sein und Nichtsein (1961), Review of Meinong's Philosophenbriefe (1968, 2 copies), The Ethics of Requirement (1964), Review of Black's Problems of Analysis (1955), Contemporary Developments in American Epistemology (1965), Brentano's Theory of Correct and Incorrect Emotion (1966), Parts as Essential to their Wholes (1973), On the Observability of the Self (1969), Human Freedom and the Self (1964), Review of Ayers' Philosophical Essays (1955), The Logic of Knowing (1963), Intentionality and the Mental (with Sellars, 1957), Sentences About Believing (1956), Lewis' Ethics of Belief (1968), Discussion on a Principle of Epistemic Preferability (1969), Intrinsic Preferability and the Problem of Supererogation (with Sosa, 1966), Events and Propositions (1970), Law Statements and Counterfactual Inference (1955). Very Good. Item #H17734
