Hardcover. 6 volumes, complete, 8vo, half contemporary half and marbled boards, very good, light wear and rubbing, owner's name and date in each (August John Hewlett, 1837), general light to moderate foxing throughout all the volumes. Each volume is a different book and title in itself. The Great Metropolis is about London and offers a precursor to Henry Mayhew's later studies of the upper, middle and lower classes, gaming houses and other material on the seemy side of London. Uncommon in the trade.
