With autographed note dated December 21, 1915 affixed with tape to flyleaf. Unclear of recipient, it reads in part, "Dear ___, I have sent as way of greeting in the shape of the enclosed copy of the joint papers on spectroscopy about to be published by the Cambridge University Press. Naturally the stuff is all obsolete and nbowadays of no interest other than to send old friends and colleagues...." 566 pp, occasional plates and illustrations. Dewar is best remembered for having invented the vacuum flask. Liveing collaborated with James Dewar, who was Jacksonian Professor of Natural Philosophy at Cambridge from 1875 to 1923.
