Electromagnetic Radiation and the Mechanical Reactions Arising From It

Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1912. First printing. Hardcover. Small quarto, dark blue cloth gilt, very good, minor rubbing to binding, some tanning or offsetting to endpapers, text very good and clean, 330 pp. Very rare, at the time of this listing there are no original copies for sale online and we couldn't find any auction records on this. Schott is best known for developing the full theory of radiation from electrons travelling at close to the speed of light. During Schott's early years at Aberystwyth he published his classical work on electromagnetic radiation, which follows the work laid down by Alfred-Marie Liénard. It was not until 1947 that the blue light observed near synchrotron particle accelerators, called 'synchrotron radiation', was recognised as the radiation Schott predicted. On the other hand, he became increasingly opposed to Niels Bohr's theories of quantum physics. Very Good. Item #H18597
