Hardcover. 5 volumes, collected by Kohlrausch himself and signed by him on the flyleaves of each volume: dozens upon dozens of publications in major scientific journals documenting his research from a 23 year old on to a 46 year old in 1886. All very good, light wear and rubbing, some of the articles with light corrections and marginalia by the author, three with handwritten tables of contents on first blank pages. Friedrich Kohlrausch is classed as one of the most important experimental physicists. His early work helped to extend the absolute system of Carl Friedrich Gauss and Wilhelm Weber to include electrical and magnetic measuring units, and he was also an important and pioneering researcher in electrochemistry. Many of his papers appeared in Annalen der Physik und Chemie. In 1895 he succeeded Hermann von Helmholtz as President of the Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt (PTR – Imperial Physical Technical Institute), an office which he held until 1905. Very Good.
