Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1904. First printing. Hardcover. Quarto, publisher's dark red cloth gilt, very good, minor wear, various paginations, about 200 pp. total, a few plates at rear. Of most importance is Michelson's essay on the velocity of light. This article represented a marker in a series of experiments dating back to 1879 and which he continued to refine well into the 1920s. In 1907 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics, becoming the first American to win the Nobel Prize in a science. He was the founder and the first head of the physics department of the University of Chicago. Very Good. Item #H18813
