First London edition with the Gigoux illustrations. 2 volumes, tall 8vo (10 x 6.5 inches), full red crushed calf by Birdsall of Northampton, raised bands, minimal giltwork on spines, very good well bound set with just a touch of rubbing, a few scuffs and scratches to boards, small darkened area (1.5 x .75 inch) on upper front board of first volume. Smollett's translation was first published in the late 18th century, but Gigoux's illustrations first appeared in a Paris edition of 1835. Very Good. Item #H20479
