New York: Sweetwater Editions, 1981. Hardcover. One of 50 copies bound in full Chieftain morocco with gilt tooling, signed by Singer and Moskowitz, with 10 signed etchings, plus extra suite of the ten etchings and ten additional ink drawings by Moskowitz, each signed. Inscribed by Singer on first blank to David Block: "who encouraged me to make important change in this edition and to write the introduction, with greetings. Isaac B. Singer. October 1981." The introduction Singer wrote for this volume is a long rumination on the Jews of Poland, the critical reception this book had originally, and his gratefulness to Moskowitz, a fellow artist from Poland, for capturing the spirit of Singer's prose in his artwork. Lovely binding in deep burgundy morocco, all housed in cloth slipcase in very good condition. Undoubtedly the best copy to be had of this lovely book: the colophon states that each of the 50 copies would be accompanied by a single original drawing, and this copy has TEN. Fine. Item #H23244
