Washington DC: Carnegie Institution, 1905-1906. First printing. Incredibly important papers, documenting her discovery of the sex chromosomes, later labeled the X and Y chromosomes, after her work with mealworms. Although historical credit is often given to Edmund Beecher Wilson or Thomas Hunt Morgan for the discovery of sex chromosomes, Stevens has a more solid claim to the person who first identified them. Probably the greatest female geneticist of her time, but her research was unfortunately hampered by ill health & cancer; she died in 1912. Good. Item #H24019
