Demerec, et al. 1936-1951. 2 bound volumes containing nos. 6, 7 and 8, and 10, 11 and 12, plus 13 loose issues in original wraps of nos. 13-25. 11 x 8.75 inches, ranging from 50 to over 100 pages each, in generally good to very good condition. These were limited to between 200 and 300 copies each. Some bear the ownership signature of Richard Blanc, a geneticist who contributed a number of articles to early issues of DIS. The bound volumes are in hardcover (green boards) and are bound without their covers; these early issues sometimes had "worksheets" and the 6th issue has a few rectangles cut out of the first few worksheets, otherwise, the texts are all very good; some wear to the wraps, especially along spines, and a few of them have seen some light and neat restoration. Among the contributors one finds many contributions from the start to the finish from Hermann Muller, who won the Nobel Prize for his contributions to genetics, plus at least two others of Morgan's "fly boys" -- Sturtevant and Bridges. Started by Demerec to aggregate and share information on the burgeoning field, DIS supplied "stock lists" internationally and also provided a space for reports, articles, findings, and other information researchers were sharing about their studies. An incredibly important scientific journal that exemplified the more open and generous sharing of information from a prior era in science. Because these were so limited, they are rare in the trade and in institutions. A nice run (excepting no. 9) of issues 6-25, fine association copies as they were owned by a contributor. Good.
