S. Quackenbush, who from our light research appears to be a geneticist and zoologist himself: he organized an expedition to Alaska in 1907 to collect mammoth bones and other Pleistocene period material, authored a study of drosophila flies in 1910, and also became a legendary "mountain man" and guide in remote Maine. Also, several pages toward the front of the book have light pencil notes and marginalia, presumably by Quackenbush, and which only enhances its appeal in our estimation. 450 pp, ads.
