Utica: William Williams, 1829. First Printing. Hardcover. 8vo, full brown calf, good with some rubbing and wear to binding, pencil (and colored pencil) child's sketches to first and last blank pages, foxing throughout; with double frontispiece of William Morgan and the assassination of Akirop. 552, xxxvi pp. A book put out partly in response to the uproad over William Morgan: Morgan was a resident of Batavia, New York, whose disappearance and presumed murder in 1826 ignited a powerful movement against the Freemasons. After Morgan announced his intention to publish a book exposing Freemasonry's secrets, he was arrested on trumped-up charges. He disappeared soon after and was believed to have been kidnapped and killed by Masons from western New York. Good. Item #H25066
