The Magazine, a Literary Journal, Vol. 1 No. 4, March 1934
Beverly Hills, CA: The Magazine Corporation, 1934. Wraps. Wraps, 11 x 8.25 inches, very good, minor wear only. An unusually handsome journal showing west coast and Stanford influences and printing a number of youthful authors who would go on to distinguished literary careers. With an extremely early story by Bishop while she was still at Vassar, "Then Came the Poor," Williams' "White Mule," "Summer Parties" by Janet Lewis, and more. The Elizabeth Bishop story is MacMahon C-28(b); it is her first appearance in a non-school-related journal; the first 26 publications in periodicals in McMahon's bibliography are for appearances in her high school journal, the 27th is an appearance in the Vassar literary journal, which next published this story in 1933, and which is reprinted here in "The Magazine." Very good. Item #H26029
