Rhodesia -- A Nation: A Plan for Constructive Statesmanship

Salisbury [Harare, Zimbabwe]: Printed for F. R. Spring by the Herald Office, 1935. First Printing. Wraps. 8vo, wraps, good with some wear to top edge of front cover, some stains, browning and yellowing to covers, contents very good. 28 pp. Very rare, and we could find no copies located by OCLC. Attributed to N. H. Wilson. In Wilson's opinion, Rhodesia had the resources to become not only a major settlement colony, but a nation in its own right, and as a part of the Empire-wide network of colonies and territories, especially given its position in British Africa, it could only expand with hugely increased white immigration. Increasing the white population was now all the more urgent because South Africa was becoming more ambivalent about its ‘imperial defence commitments’. Within Southern Rhodesia itself, new settlers would boost the local economy, and in Wilson’s opinion the country could support up to 20 million whites, although that ‘capacity’ need not be reached if a proper ‘balance’ were struck so that the colony could develop into a ‘truly European country’. Very good. Item #H26552
