The Dublin Review, Vol. VIII, New Series, January & April, 1867

London: Burnes, Oates & Co., 1867. Hardcover. Bound volume in half green pebbled morocco and marbled boards, very good, some scuffing to leather, bookplate of the Carnegie Free Library in Allegheny PA and pencil numbers on flyleaf, small ink note and stamp on first page of the table of contents, no other marks, pages very good, light toning. Founded as a Catholic magazine, although it was published and edited from London, Quin enlisted the support of Daniel O'Connell, whose Catholic emancipation campaign was admired by both Quin and Wiseman. The orientation was both Catholic and Irish and had both stand-alone articles as well as reviews of recently published books, oftentimes including books in other languages. This volume includes articles and reviews on Dr. Whateley, Relations of St. Paul with St. Peter, Medieval Manichaeism and the Inquisition, Pusey on Ecclesiastical Unity, Joan of Arc, the Directorium Anglicanum, "Two Criticisms of the Dublin Review," McCosh's works on mind and Mill, the current state of affairs in 1866, etc. Very good.
