Stated Eighth Edition. 8vo, contemporary full dark calf, red spine label, good copy, minor wear to binding, slight restoration to front outer joint and inner hinge, light wear and cracking to rear joint, rear board has a faint 4 x 5" impression of something that has left evenly spaced vertical lines, contents good to very good, pp. 1-9 have brown tidemark from old waterstain to much of the pages. Copies cited in OCLC call for a map; this has two copperplates, including a folding one of the solar system, but no map. xi, (5) 304 (204) pp; the text followed by over 200 pp. of tables of latitudes, longitudes, logarithms and trigonometrical measurements, 2 pp. ads for Moore's publications, instruments and services -- he was available to teach navigation. Undated; most people and Worldcat cite 1784 as the date of the 8th edition. The preface says that all calculations for finding longitudes are made for the year 1786 and advises readers to pick up an almanack for that year.
