Tancred, Prince of Tiberias, a Tale of the Eleventh Century

Baltimore: John Murphy, 1884. First English Language Edition. Hardcover. 8vo, decorated red cloth gilt, very good, light wear and soil to binding, contents slightly tanned. Translated from the French, but original authors not given. Possibly written by the father-son novelists who published under the pseudonym Gabriel Ferry; the elder's real name was Eugène Louis Gabriel Ferry de Bellemare: they wrote a novel based on the life of Tancrede. Tancred was an Italo-Norman leader of the First Crusade who later became Prince of Galilee and regent of the Principality of Antioch. Tancred came from the house of Hauteville and was the great-grandson of Norman lord Tancred of Hauteville. Uncommon in the trade and only a few copies in libraries. Very good. Item #H27376
