Hardcover. Handwritten transcription, bound in contemporary paneled calf, 224 numbered pages, plus transcription of title page, dedication, etc. In an early 18th century hand. Gardiner's book ran 494 pp, and with a catchword at the end of p. 224, we suspect that there was at least one other volume that the assiduous scribe set down. Having no knowledge of the economics of the book trade back then, we still think it would have been easier for the poor law student to buy a copy than spend the dozens of hours transcribing it, but who are we to say? With material on statutes governing witchcraft, as well as much discussion of sodomy and buggery (and the difference between the two) this is a remarkable object of both penmanship and as evidence of extreme labor. Binding is good, some amateurish gluing of spine and joints by previous owner, text good and readable. Good. Item #H2761
