Giving the Good Life, A Panorama of The Carnegie and the People Who Created It - with letter from Robert C. Wilburn
Pittsburgh: The Carnegie, 1987. First Printing. Wraps. 11 x 8.5 inches, stiff wraps with three brass rivets, very good. 121 pp, copy of a typescript, with accompanying letter to Edward Parrack, an advertising executive (d. 1999) who was a lifetime trustee of Carnegie Institute, from Robert Wilburn, the president of The Carnegie, from 1987, discussing the upcoming capital campaign and the idea of a pamphlet or book that "is a documentation of The Carnegie and the people of Pittsburgh that have fulfilled its portential with their philanthropy." Although the book does not name an author, Wilburn divulges that it is Mary Brignano, a noted and much lauded professional writer in Pittsburgh. "The book's design will divide it into more attractive and readable pieces. Before the professionals get their hands on this material, however, your comments and criticisms will be most welcome and appreciated." To our knowledge no book was ever published -- and this is the only copy we have ever seen. Brignano in 2011 did publish "Extraordinary leaders, biographies of the presidents, Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, 1904-2011" which might be drawn in part from this book. Very good. Item #H27649
