The Pilgrim Fathers, Neither Puritans Nor Persecutors: a Lecture Delivered at the Friends' Institute, London, on the 18th January, 1866

London: A. W. Bennett, 1866. First Printing. Wraps. 8vo, stitched self wraps, fair to good copy with a portion of an inscription at the top of the title page torn off (approx. 3 x 1 inches), name stamp of Albert B. Otis on title [page, some tanning and wear, lower outer corner of pages show creasing and dog-ears, light stains and tanning to last few pages, one or two pencil marks or notes to text. The inscription that's mainly gone at the top of the title page seems to be from George P. Hayward, a tea-merchant from a very old New England family with roots in Plymouth MA; Hayward seemed to have an interest, consequently, in pilgrims; he was an active participant in a "Pilgrim Celebration" in Plymouth in 1853. Albert B. Otis was a Civil War general from Maine who was friendly with William Dean Howells and Walt Whitman. Someone has written "valuable" in old ink on title page. 39 pp. Good. Item #H28858
