The author, Eisenhart-Rothe, was a general during WWI. After the end of the war he was accepted into the provisional Reichswehr and, with his transfer to the Reichswehr Ministry on October 1, 1919, was appointed inspector of education and training and promoted to lieutenant general on June 16, 1920. At the request of the Entente, Eisenhart-Rothe had to resign, which was granted to him on June 15, 1921, with the award of the character of General der Infanterie.
