The Case of the Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church, at the City of Allegheny, PA (1845)
(Pittsburgh): 1845. First Printing. Wraps. Disbound pamphlet, good with light soil and wear, 10 pp. A case that eventually came before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania involving land in the "Commons" of Allegheny (now the North Side of Pittsburgh): in 1827 Riddle's wife, who was then a child, was heir to some land in Allegheny, but a theological seminary was constructed on that land without any compensation to her. The two of them sought to redress this wrong and gain compensation from the Presbytery for land unfairly taken from her. Her husband George lays out the case against the Theological Seminary and gives extracts from the testimony presented in the District Court of Allegheny in late 1844. RARE: no recorded holdings in any institution according to OCLC. Good. Item #H29230
