Bibliophile in the Nursery -- author's own copy
Cleveland: World Publishing Company, 1957. First Printing. Hardcover. Large 8vo, publisher's cloth in dust jacket, book very good with light wear, tanning & offsetting to rear endpapers because of laid in clippings, with Targ's signed bookplate on pastedown, review of this book from a Wichita newspaper taped to flyleaf. Jacket fair with some taping, wear, long tears, fading to spine, now in a jacket protector. Laid in addtional material includes review of this book by Max Herzberg from the Newark News, postcard to Targ from Jacob Blanck, the great bibliographer, from 1956 ("Dear Bill-- will revise the piece while in New Haven -- there's no hurry is there? Will see you in NY while on visit to New Haven -- hope this makes sense. Jake." Also, clipped review from the Hartford Times, from the Dallas Morning News, friendly letter from Fred Melcher at Bowker from 1955 on book related topics, a torn-out ad for the book from AB-Bookman, two book collection contest brochures. In addition, the frontispiece is inscribed to Targ and his wife probably by Clifton Waller Barrett, the owner of the books pictured in it. A terrific book on the collecting and lore of old children's books which includes work by Opie, Altick, Blanck, Vincent Starrett, August Derleth, Frederick Melcher, Ellery Queen and many others. Very good / fair. Item #H29363
